Matcha Tea Shake Recipe

Matcha tea shake is easy to make with this recipe. These ingredients are enough to make one good-sized matcha shake of about 16 ounces (1 pint) in a 1-quart blender. If you double the recipe, be sure that your blender can hold more than 32 ounces (1 quart), because the ingredients need some room to move around while they are being blended:

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of milk (dairy or non-dairy, such as almond, oat, or soy)
  • 1 tablespoon of matcha powder
  • 1-2 tablespoons of honey or maple syrup, depending on how sweet you want your shake
  • 1/2 cup of Greek yogurt or plant-based yogurt (for creaminess)
  • 1/2 cup of ice cubes
  • 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract (optional but recommended)
  • 1 pinch of salt (optional but recommended)

Matcha Tea Shake Recipe – Directions

  • Prepare the Matcha:

In a small bowl, whisk the matcha powder with a few tablespoons of hot water (not boiling) until it is smooth and free of any lumps. This will activate the matcha, so don’t skip this step.

  • Combine the Ingredients:
    • In a blender,combine the prepared matchamilk, honey or maple syrupice cubes, and vanilla extract.
    • Put the ice cubes in first so that the ingredients don’t splash when you put the ice cubes into the blender.
    • Add a pinch of salt for extra flavor.
  • Blend:
    • Blend the ingredients on high speed for 30-60 seconds, until you see that they have combined to a a smooth-textured shake, like a smoothie, and there are no chunks of ice in the mixture.
    • If it is too thick, add a little more milk and blend again for a few 10 more seconds until you get the desired consistency.
  • Taste and Adjust:
    • Taste the shake and adjust sweetness by adding more honey or maple syrup if needed.
    • Blend again briefly to mix.
  • Serve:
    • Pour the matcha tea shake into a glass. Make it fancy by adding a topping of whipped cream or garnish it with a sprinkle of matcha powder.
  • Enjoy:
    • Serve the shake immediately while it is fresh and enjoy your refreshing matcha tea shake!
